Guided by their mission to create an authentic living environment for residents in the heart of the village, the Angus Group has been fully committed to revitalizing East Montreal since 2019, particularly in the historic neighbourhood of Pointe-aux-Trembles.
Exceptional Potential
This neighbourhood has exceptional potential with a lot of well-kept heritage buildings, several parks and green spaces, as well as a beautiful view of the river. However, the Notre-Dame Street commercial sector has been suffering from devitalization for several years now. The situation has not improved despite several attempts at revitalization over the years and now has a negative image associated with it, where we find:
- Vacant buildings
- Dilapidated buildings
- Unsafe urban environment
- Traffic issues
Phase I: Rental apartments and local businesses
On both sides of Notre-Dame Street, between Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard and Sainte-Anne Street, this project aims to revitalize the sector and create a new high-quality, diversified living environment for local residents.
The project consists of 109 rental apartments with local businesses and services on the ground floor of each new building.
The project was designed according to the “In the city in 15 minutes” principle, which gives residents access to all essential goods and services close to home, either by foot or bike.
The goal is to begin revitalizing this historic sector and make it so that local residents will want to visit it every day, as an enriching environment that will also be conducive to creating a proud, dynamic community. Deconstruction began in December 2023 and construction will begin as of spring 2024.
Phase II: A cultural offering at Saint-Enfant-Jésus Church
Considered one of Montreal’s most beautiful areas, the location of the Saint-Enfant-Jésus Church offers a great opportunity for development to further revitalize the historic Pointe-aux-Trembles sector through a large-scale project that complements the Notre-Dame Street project.
With the intention of doing a large-scale collective project, the Angus Group is planning to breathe new life into the old buildings, which are located in a high-interest heritage area. The church, the presbytery and the grounds will all be transformed into a new sought-after destination for culture, community and services for local residents. The buildings will be preserved, but tailored to their new purpose. They will contribute to the growing vitality of the Pointe-aux-Trembles village and help create an authentic, original destination that will showcase all the beauty of the Pointe-aux-Trembles identity.
With this large-scale revitalization project, the Société de développement Angus intends to develop the historic Pointe-aux-Trembles village even further, so that local residents will be able to enjoy a nice, lively, friendly, safe space every day.
